At the centre of the logo is
Te Kahaka, the calabash, bearing the colours of the earth and symbolically a container of stored food, seeds and future sustenance and growth.
It is set against the colours of sea and sky, suggesting a timelessness, permanence and universality which has traditionally presented aspects of eternity and suggestions of a divine presence.
- the central symbol: a carved calabash (Te Kahaka)
- a motto: "Ki inu kau ahau ..." These words ("If only I could drink ...") are attributed to a Hokianga tupuna wahine by the name of Hine-rangi, probably of eleven generations ago. They are an expression of desire, not necessarily just for physical water.
- a Maori name for the RE Centre: Te Pu Akonga Whakapono Katorika ki Tamaki
