Course Information

The Walk by Faith course is designed to help you reflect on your life and faith in Jesus Christ and to find meaning at each stage of your life.

Personal study and reading is aimed at stimulating your reflection on your life experience in relation to the study themes allowing the teaching of Christ in Scripture and Church tradition to shed light on it.

Walk by Faith uses adult interdependent learning processes through which participants are assisted to:

  • understand themselves and their faith better
  • deepen their knowledge of Jesus Christ, Scriptures and Church teaching
  • prepare for possible ministry in a parish
  • give confidence in sharing your faith with others


Outline of the Course

Year 1 - Journey of Faith

Our understanding of ourselves and our search for meaning in life

  • Our religious situation in daily life
  • the gift of God in creation
  • the human condition
  • Jesus, Messiah - God's self gift
  • The Church - missioned people of God
  • The Believer - one called to witness


Year 2 - Christian Journey

Deepening our faith in the light of the person and Gospel of Jesus Christ

  • The Catechist - sharing faith with others
  • Exodus - introduction to Old Testament
  • New Creation - introduction to New Testament
  • The Good News of Jesus Christ
  • The Church - a living community
  • Life in Christ's spirit - sacraments of Initiation


Year 3 - Journey into Mission

Expressing our faith in mission

  • Evangelisation and Catechetics
  • Revelation
  • My life - a journey towards wholeness
  • The Church facing society in Aotearoa - New Zealand
  • Project: a practical work proclaiming Jesus Christ in my own situation


The Walk by Faith programme is structured to provide an environment which fosters growth. Each year the programme consists of

  • 6 comprehensive study guides for home study
  • 6 tutorial group meetings
  • 6 interesting assignments
  • 2 weekend seminars
