The film of “The Bible in the Beginning” is limited to the dramatization of a few key moments from the earliest chapters. The opening sequence is from Genesis and the illustration of the Creation, while the narrator reads from the text. Scenes of breath-taking beauty and mythic Eden images permeate the sequence that leads up to the creation of Adam (Michael Parks). The Fall is depicted literally from the text with Eve and a snake, leading to the expulsion from Paradise. The story picks up later with two sons Cain and Abel (Richard Harris and Franco Nero) coming to grief over fratricide. Other chapters depicted include an Angel (Peter O’Toole) warning Lot of danger in Sodom and Gomorrah. The tale of Abraham (George C. Scott) and his wife Sarah (Ava Gardner) trying to conceive of a son is also told. The final sequence deals with Noah and the Flood. Noah (John Huston) builds his amazing ark and leads all the animals, two by two, onto it just before the Deluge with a mysterious hypnotic control.
